The Surrogate’s Court hears cases relating to individuals who have passed away, including disagreements about wills and the proper way to manage or divide the estate (total assets and liabilities). Surrogate’s courts are also authorized to handle adoptions.

Directions and Parking

Please note that although the address of the Albany County Courthouse for mailing purposes is 16 Eagle Street, Albany, New York,  the only public entrance to the building is on Lodge Street on the opposite side of the building.  Please keep this in mind when parking.

From the South: Take I-787 North. Take exit 4 and follow the signs to Broadway by turning left at the 1st traffic light. Turn right onto Broadway and drive to the 3rd traffic light and turn left on State St. Continue up State St. to the 2nd light and turn right on Lodge St. The Albany County Courthouse public entrance is past Pine St. on Lodge St. on the left, directly across from the Albany County Judicial Center at 6 Lodge Street.

From the North: Take I-787 south. Use exit 4B (Clinton Ave). At the light turn left onto Broadway. Go to the 2nd traffic light and turn right on Pine St. Continue up Pine St. to Lodge St. The Albany County Courthouse public entrance is past Pine St. on Lodge St. on the left, directly across from the Albany County Judicial Center at 6 Lodge Street.

Meter parking is available on the streets, and there are several downtown paid lots available, including a lot at the Hilton Albany which is located at Pine and Lodge.
