Question:
How long is a dog bite case in Buffalo going to take?
Answer:
A lot of people who have a dog bite claim in New York and have been seriously injured want to know how long their case is going to take. One of the things that’s a little bit different in dog bite cases is the nature and extent of the dog bite injury. Very often, we’re dealing with someone who’s been bitten. They then have sutures or staples, and may require plastic surgery. They’re also often left with a scar. The disfiguring scar is really what the value of their case is going to be based on. You really want to wait the sufficient amount of time until that scar is properly healed. That’s true especially with young children— anybody who is six months to a year, all the way up to somebody who’s 18 years of age.
Where somebody falls and breaks an arm, for example, those injuries may heal in several months, or maybe even up to half a year. With a dog bite case and scarring, on the other hand, you want to wait a lot longer to make sure that we have a good idea of what that scar is going to look like down the road. We also want to consult with a plastic surgeon to see what the plastic surgeon says about whether or not that scar can be revised. In other words, can that scar be made to look any better, or are you going to be stuck looking the way you look right now because of that disfiguring scar?
To answer the question of how long it’s going to take to resolve the case, generally, dog bite cases take a little bit longer than some other cases. You really have to wait and see to see how that healing goes with the scar and how that scar looks over time.
