Question:
What are common mistakes people make if they have been injured on a construction site?
Answer:
There are a few mistakes people make when they’ve been involved in a very serious accident on a construction site. Number one, they don’t get the immediate medical attention that they should get. They think that they’re going to get better on their own. They think that it can wait until tomorrow. They take a wait-and-see approach, and they don’t get the necessary medical treatment. This delay is then used against them later on when the insurance company says, “Well, it couldn’t have been that bad because they didn’t seek immediate medical treatment.” It’s a mistake that people make, not getting immediate medical treatment.
The next thing that people do is they don’t follow up on their medical treatment. Let’s say you’ve had a serious accident, and you’ve gone to the hospital. You see a doctor, and the doctor then tells you to follow up either with him or her or with your personal care physician. You don’t do it. You’re hoping to get better or don’t want to be bothered. There are a million reasons, none of them good, to not follow up with the medical treatment that you need. That’s a mistake that people make, not following up with the medical treatment that’s been recommended.
Lastly, a mistake people make is they don’t get a lawyer. It’s very important to hire a lawyer right off the bat in these types of cases because you have to preserve evidence, evidence in order to have a successful claim. You need to get an investigator. That’s what we do. We send out our investigators immediately in order to document things, gather photos and witness statements and do what needs to be done in order to preserve the evidence in your case.
Those are three things that people do – not getting immediate medical treatment, not getting their follow-up treatment, and not contacting us soon enough in order to protect and preserve their claim.
