A lot of people who have been seriously injured after being struck by a car come into our office and want to know how long their case is going to take. One of the things we tell them is it’s impossible right off the bat to tell them exactly how long their case is going to take because it depends on a number of factors which have yet to be determined.

One of the factors is the nature and extent of the injuries. How long are your injuries going to take to heal? How long is it going to take for you to make a full recovery? How long is your rehab going to take? Are you going to require additional surgeries in order to repair the damaged legs or damaged hip that you have? How long are you going to be out of work, and are you going to be able to continue in that type of job? If you have a heavy lifting type of job or a truck driver type of job, and you’re no longer able to sit for a long time, no longer able to lift or do certain functions, your attorney needs to know how long it’s going to take for you to make a full and complete recovery.

Very often, some cases can be resolved quickly. They’re simpler and can be resolved in a matter of months or a half a year. With pedestrian cases, however, where you’ve been struck by a car, your injuries are severe and devastating, and your treatment is also going to take a long time. It is going to be very serious and very complicated, and that, too, is going to take a long time. Again, your case could take up to three years. Sometimes you can resolve a case very quickly, but it really depends on the nature and extent of the injuries and how long it takes you to recovery.
