Question:

Why don’t victims of child sexual abuse come forward?

Answer:

There are three reasons why many victims do not file lawsuits against their abusers.Reporting Child Sexual Abuse First of all, it wasn’t until February of 2019 that the statute of limitations was extended to take into account that many victims are not comfortable about filing charges until many, many years after the occurrence. Also, the church has made people think that you are the only victim. It’s only recently that the church has released the names of clergy members that have abused children. Just in 2018, there were numerous disclosures of clergy members who had abused children. Finally, it’s often difficult for sexually abused children to talk to anyone, even an attorney, about their experiences.
