Buffalo Divorce Lawyer on What You Need to Know About a No Fault Divorce

Buffalo Divorce LawyerWhen people come to see me as a Buffalo Divorce Lawyer, they often ask about a no fault divorce. I explain that, since 2010, New York State has had no-fault divorce laws. That means, rather than having to make allegations of wrongdoing against the other spouse, one party need only allege that the marriage has been irretrievably broken down for at least six months. It is no longer necessary for the husband or wife to point their fingers at the other and say, “She was cruel to me,” or “He abandoned me,” or “He committed adultery.” New York now has no-fault divorce, and that’s the way most divorces proceed.
