Buffalo Divorce Attorney on Needing a Prenup Prior to Marriage

Buffalo Divorce AttorneyA lot of people contact me as a Buffalo Divorce Attorney, wondering whether or not they should get a prenuptial agreement. If you have significant assets that you want to protect, our advice is generally yes. If things do not work out, you’re always better off having a prenuptial than arguing about it after the fact. It’s purely a personal decision. It is always preferable, if possible, for you and your prospective spouse to agree about how property will be divided in the event that things don’t work out. Bear in mind, however, that a lot of people are always a little squishy or skeptical about addressing that issue with their spouse. If you are able to reach an agreement with your prospective spouse, it’s always best to have it reduced to writing in advance so that everybody knows where they stand, rather than fighting about it in the event things don’t work out.
