A mom from a neighboring town came in to see us with her daughter. Her daughter, a very, very active teenager, was in school at a local high school, really minding her own business. She was at her locker, and two of the high school boys were horsing around. One pushed the other into my client. My client fell down and really sustained a very, very serious knee injury. Nobody wanted to take her case. This was an accident that happened at school. The school’s not responsible. While these were just two young boys who were horsing around, they didn’t really do anything out of the ordinary. It’s just your typical school yard or in school type of horseplay where these things happen, and you’re just out of luck.

We told her that we would take the case even though nobody else would take the case and pursue it on behalf of her daughter. We filed a claim not only against the school but against the other two young boys that were involved. There were complications because guardians had to be appointed for our client, and guardians had to be appointed for the two young boys involved. It was a long, drawn out process, but we were able to insulate the young lady from her involvement in the case in terms of she had to come in and tell her story, which was not comfortable. We prepared her, and she was very comfortable when she came in and told us.

At the end of the day, we were able to get her hundreds of thousands of dollars for the very devastating knee injuries that she sustained. A young girl like that shouldn’t have to have knee surgery. She shouldn’t have to wear knee braces. She shouldn’t have to walk around with a cane. When you’re in high school, everybody’s very, very sensitive about what people are saying and how they look. This girl is now going to be protected for her future medical treatments for the pain and suffering that she had to endure because we were able to develop a good theory and persuade the insurance companies for these two young men that the right thing to do and the legal thing to do was to compensate this young lady. Mom was very happy that she knocked on our door and came in because we were able to get a very nice recovery for her daughter.
